The Huey P. Long Bridge Widening Project was officially kicked off by Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco and Secretary Johnny B. Bradberry at a groundbreaking ceremony April 27, 2006. We don't think we have ever been over a bridge that is more Nerve Racking! The lanes are so narrow, That you can barely stay in them, And you can't see the Guard Rails, All you saw was the Mississippi River. And to make matters worse, When you get to the Top, The lane shifted which made it Totally Impossible to stay in your own lane.
If You Have Ever Been Over This Bridge, Then You Know How Happy Everyone in New Orleans is to see this happen. The Primary Purpose of the $660 million Project is to widen the Bridge to Six Lanes and Enhance Safety, Emergency Evacuation, Economic Development, Quality of Life and connectivity between the East & West Banks of Jefferson Parish. The Entire Project should be Completed by the End of 2011. If You Want To Believe That! Have fun Louisiana Trucking.
